Kaiser Permanente broke ground on a new School of Medicine in Pasadena, CA, with plans to admit the first class in 2019. The School will center medical education around strategic pillars that include providing high-quality care beyond traditional medical settings, acknowledging the central importance of collaboration and teamwork to inform treatment decisions, and addressing disparities in health. Dr. Christine Cassel, who at the time was the Planning Dean for the School of Medicine, discussed the challenges of physicians in today’s environment, and the need to train for change, how KP is thinking about equipping doctors to practice in 2030 and beyond, and novel technologies and approaches to medical training introduced in the new School of Medicine.
